The Mediation of Scandal and Moral Outrage

Media, Communication and the Spectacle
The deadline for the conference in November 2009 was closed on May 15. Everyone has received notification on selection. We are very happy to receive so many good submissions. The conference organisers are looking forward to event, which is supposed to be a spectacle in it self. We are now busy creating the programme which will be online as soon as possible.
Who is Who in the Gender and Communication Section?
During the last business meeting in Barcelone some members expressed the wish to have more information on other section members. The idea of gathering this information with the use of simple template was discussed. The Section has now looked into this possibility and decided that ECREA's website provides exactly the information wished for. The 2nd European Communication Conference was a great success. Firstly, the section team would like to thank all participants (both presenters and audience) in the section's sessions during the conference for contributing to the vivid discussions and the intellectual quality of the sessions. Secondly, the 3rd Business Meeting took place in which the section team was elected to run the section for a second term. Voting members are thanked! Thirdly, during the business meeting several ideas were proposed to engage section members in the activities of the section. Click here to read the minutes of the meeting.
Elections and Third Business Meeting
On November 27, 2008, the 3rd Business Meeting of the Gender and Communication Section will take place in Barcelona at ECREA's 2nd European Communication Conference. During the Business Meetings members will have the possibility to vote for the formation of the Section Theme. The voting form can be downloaded here, but will also be available during the meeting. Further information on voting will be send to the ECREA mailing list shortly. We hope to meet you in Barcelona!
Second Business Meeting in Montreal

Updatate on the 2nd European Communication Conference
The Gender and Communication Section has finished the review process for the submitted paper, poster en panel proposals. Unfortunately, the section could only accept a little over 50% of the proposals. Difficult, since we found there were many, many proposal addressing interesting topics. Nevertheless, the section hopes to meet all of you in Barcelona.
Meeting of the Gender and Communication Section
An (informal) meeting of the section took place on 24 February 2008, between 5.30 and 7.30 pm in Barcelona. Points of discussion were the upcoming conference in Barcelona, the progress with the establishment of the Women's Network and other activities. 2nd European Communication Conference, 25-28 November 2008; Barcelona
The Gender and Communication Section launched a specific call for papers, the deadline of which ended March 3. During this conference a Business Meeting will be organized as well as section-elections. More news will be announced later. To read the call for papers click here.
First Business Meeting of the Gender and Communication Section
The first business meeting of the section did take place during the Equal Opportunities Symposium on 11 October between 4.30 and 5.30 pm at the Residence Palace in Brussels. The minutes of the business meeting can be viewed by double clicking here.
